On April 14th, Canton FFA will be holding its annual banquet to congratulate students on their accomplishments in Ag and to welcome the new chapter officers.

“My favorite part of the banquet is during the ceremony when we get to watch the slideshow and look back on memories and different activities that the kids have done,” Mrs. Woods, horticulture teacher, said.

Currently there are 12 students running for the 9 chapter offices and they are all excited to get to grow their leadership skills, and get a chance to contribute more to their chapter. Their responsibilities as chapter officers include to attend all FFA meetings and activities, be willing to serve, to have an SAE program, to be a positive role model and welcoming to all FFA members in the chapter, to fulfill all duties of his or her office, to be enrolled in an ag class, and to be willing to uphold school and district policies.

“My favorite part is getting to see everyone who supports us come in and look at our achievements from the year. From our banners that we won at shows to the picture slide show with all our activities we’ve done,” Amanda Schoonmaker, Canton FFA chapter president, said.

The banquet will have a dinner where family members of FFA students, friends, and members of the community that support the agricultural community will be fed. EvilO BBQ will be catering the event and will have smoked sausage, chicken breast, and pork loin.

“I like the imperfections and the little hiccups of the banquet since they make up the good memories, and I like that the kids are in charge and they get to showcase what they learned throughout the year,” Mr. Mitchell, Ag teacher, said.
