STUCO Attends District Convention

Wednesday October 19th Canton student council members traveled to Laverne for the District 11 meeting. After being welcomed, the members were able to meet their speaker Ethan Sackett. Although he was the main speaker, there were other members who spoke.

We say the OASC is a family and I was really excited to see my ‘brothers and sisters’ yesterday. We only get to see each other a few times a year and it’s always a rejuvenating experience. I was also excited for my kids to be introduced to what BASIC is and get a small glimpse into the OASC.” Matt Schieffer, STUCO advisor, said.

Ethan Sackett is a student success coordinator and transfer student recruiter at Northwestern Oklahoma University(NWOSU). Sackett’s success started in elementary school, when he decided to open a lawn mowing business. This was not the only stop in his success story. He continued to tell students that helping others is something that we should go out of our way to do.

“I enjoyed the meeting, it was a way we got to learn about leadership and hear someone else’s story and how they gained their success. This gave me hope for my future, and told me that helping people can help them but can also help me.” Kenadi Weber, 8th grader, said.

Students went to eat out after the meeting. This was a time where the members could bond and meet other STUCO members.
