A Cowboy’s Sweetheart

January 27, 1972, a day that shall live in infamy. This is the day that Mrs. Barney was spawned.

Meridith Barney was born in Oklahoma City. She has one sister, Bridgette, and two sons, Stetson and Clint. Mrs. Barney has lived in Oklahoma City, Bridge Creek, Sapulpa, Duncan, Weatherford, Lafayette, and Canton. She graduated from Weatherford High School and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Her degree is in speech drama/communications and criminal justice.  Mrs. Barney enjoys reading, spending time with her family and her corgi dogs, caring for her cattle, and cheering for the OSU Cowboys.  She is also a big fan of Converse shoes.

An interesting fact about Mrs. Barney is that she married her cowboy, Mr. Barney, in the basement of the Fort Smith County Jail. They were married by a police officer and had a prisoner as their witness.  Mr. Barney jokingly claimed, “She stalked me for so long I finally gave up and married her.  I ignored her for so long.”  Other interesting facts are that Mrs. Barney got lost with her college roommates at Alabaster Caverns for 24 hours, and she has also been locked in the trunk of a car with Elmo from Sesame Street.

Mrs. Barney is an English teacher here at Canton High School. She takes on the challenge of creating a yearbook with her media classes.  She is in charge of school dances and many assemblies. She is a co-teacher of the newspaper class, which has been an exciting addition to the school and has helped keep students informed. To top off all of the things Mrs. Barney does, she keeps the snack cart stocked, which we students could not live without.
