FFA and 4-H supporters attended the Canton FFA-4-H Trophy Auction on January 15, 2018.  FFA members served smoked pulled pork, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, garlic toast, and chocolate sheet cake. The pork was donated by Seaboard. The cafeteria tables were full of people who came out to support the local agriculture students.

Approximately 70 guests were in attendance.   Sponsorship of Local Stock Show trophies began the auction, which was conducted by Tom Evans and Mark Fuqua.  This year, 22 total Canton students are showing a total of 63 animals (43 pigs, 12 beef, 2 sheep, 6 goats.) In total, 30 different trophies were auctioned.  The highest selling trophy was for Reserve Grand Commercial Heifer.  It went for $550 and was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Jess Kephart. In total, the 30 trophies went for $9,050.

In addition to the trophies, special items and baskets were also auctioned.  One of a kind metal items made in the FFA shop were a big hit, as well as baskets that the individual classes put together. Baked items and homemade salsa and jelly was also up for bid.  The highest non-trophy items were purchased by Evans Auctions and Wheeler Brothers.  Each paid $500 to sponsor the “Welcome to Canton” metal FFA Signs.  One is on the south entrance to Canton and the other is on the east entrance to Canton.  The highest class basket was put together by the senior class.  It was a collection of board games and toys.  It went for $180.  The total of the non-trophy items was $5010, bringing the grand total raised to $14,060.
