On Tuesday, January 30, the Canton High School boys basketball team watched the movie “Hoosiers” before the district basketball game. The movie is about a small town basketball team that won a state championship.

The movie takes place in 1986. In 1986 basketball was not split into classes, according to the size of the school. All schools played each other.

“The movie taught me that one man cannot do it all,” Eric Estala, freshman player, said.

Coach Rich, the coach of the Canton boys team, wanted the team to watch the movie. He wanted to show them what can happen when they choose to play as a team. The movie also shows that one man cannot win a game. One of the players thinks he will win the game by running down the court and shooting the ball. The town thinks that is how a game is won also. The coach is put down and almost fired because he tried to run an offense instead of just shooting the ball.“I think the movie taught us to listen to the coach,” Josh Edwards, sophomore, said.

“I wanted the team to watch the movie because it is about a small town that comes together to overcome all odds,” Coach Rich explained.

Every high school basketball team should watch “Hoosiers”. The movie shows that any team can win a state championship. The movie also shows that a state championship cannot be won by playing as individuals.

“We watched the movie to learn about sportsmanship and how to play as a team,” Brooks Martin, freshman, said.
