Students at Canton High School have had several injuries just this year. There is a total of seven: one eighth-grader, three freshmen, two sophomores, and one senior. Injuries range from torn ligaments to broken bones.

“I hurt my growth plate in my ankle and rolled it in basketball practice,” Hopelin Hood, eighth-grader, said. “Yes I am out of sports, right after basketball season is when I hurt it, so I did not miss any games,” Hood said. She is supposed to be released February 22nd. This is Hood’s third time injuring both her ankle and her growth plate.

“I hurt my L3 vertebrae, but we are not sure how,” Josh Edwards, sophomore, said. Edwards is out of sports for the rest of the year, and this is his first time hurting his back. “I was told I will be released in ninety days the last time I went to the doctor,” Edwards said.

“I completely tore my meniscus and slightly tore my ACL,” Hayleigh Noble, freshman, said. In basketball, Noble got hurt towards the end of the season. “Yes, I am out of sports. I was out for the last two games of the season and the playoff games,” Noble, said. Noble will be released in five more weeks and then she will start physical therapy. “Yes, this is actually the second time on the same knee. My first time, I completely tore my ACL and slightly tore my meniscus,” Noble said.

“I completely tore my ACL, and I had a bucket handle meniscus tear. I hurt my knee in basketball,” Hannah Hood, senior, said. Hood was out for the entire basketball season. “I will be released in a month or so, and it is my first time hurting my knee,” Hood said.

“I completely tore my ACL, and I had a buckle handle meniscus tear, and I will be released to sports six to nine months from my surgery which was January 22nd,” Beau Fuqua, freshman, said. “I hurt my knee in football playing the Seiling Wildcats. I went to sack their quarterback, and I went one way and my knee went the other way,” Fuqua said. Fuqua had to miss the last football game due to his knee injury. This is also Fuqua’s first time ever being injured.

“I broke my wrist, diving for a loose ball in a basketball game and another kid landed on it,” Jared Cox, sophomore, said. “I do not know yet if I am out of sports because I haven’t been to an orthopedist yet,” Cox said. This is not Cox’s first time injuring his wrist.

“I broke my arm, trying to save a ball in basketball and fell on it,” Cody Conrady, freshman, said. Conrady was out for basketball, and he only got to play four games the whole season due to a knee injury in football. This is Conrady’s first time injuring his arm.
