ACT Tips

On Monday, February 19, Shelly Harris came to Canton to talk and give tips that would help students when they take the ACT. Canton’s junior, sophomore, and freshman classes attended her presentation. Juniors from Seiling, Okeene, Taloga, and Sharon-Mutual also attended.

Here are five tips from Mrs. Harris that will help on the ACT and PSAT.

  • Pick a set of letters for questions you don’t know the answer to.

When coming across a question you don’t know the answer to select a letter choice, and use it throughout the entire test.

  • Look over the questions before reading the story.

Instead of reading the story first read the question to know what to look for in the story.

  • If you are running out of time, read the first and last sentence of each paragraph.

Reading the first and last sentence of each paragraph in the story will give enough information about what the story is about so that it will be easier to answer the questions and not run out of time.

  • Practice old ACT tests that can be found online.

Practicing old ACT test can help prepare for the test when the time comes.

  • Use the process of elimination.

Using the process of elimination will give a higher chance of getting the question correct.

Her presentation started at nine in the morning and ended at eleven-thirty.
