Canton alumni, Jasmine Bergsieker, made the brave choice to enlist in the United States Air Force after graduating. Jasmine attended BMT ( Basic Military Training) in Texas. After saying goodbye to her family, friends and little hometown, she left for BMT, in Texas on July 25, 2017.

“I was expecting everything to be so much different than it was,“ Bergsieker said about BMT. After arriving at Lackland Air Force Base, she was issued a backpack with all of her gear in it. Shortly after receiving her gear, the new arrivals were split into their squadrons. Jasmine is in the 331st Squadron. Jasmine received her uniform the next day.

The first two weeks were full of medical appointments and classes. “It kind of felt like being in high school again,“ Bergsieker said. The remaining four of BMT was full of learning and physical conditioning. Jasmine passed her End of Course Test and graduated in September of 2017. She is currently stationed at Joint Base in Charleston, South Carolina.
