Basic White Girl

Basic+White+Girl

When athletes pack for a track meet some do not have to pack much. As for me, I have to pack a bottle of sunscreen. Being a redhead is a bad thing in the summer because if I go swimming or just spend the day out in the sun and forget my sunscreen, I will blister.

I rarely ever tan, if I want to wear shorts or a tank top then I have to beware of the people staring because I am so pale. I can go outside just for a nice walk around the block and come back with a sunburn that looks like I have been outside the whole day.

I have to be ready for everyone I know to make jokes about being so white compared to everyone else.

I always try to apply sunscreen on my face since I absolutely hate my face peeling.

When I was eight, I was at my grandma’s swimming and did not wear sunscreen I was out the whole day. The next day I was as red as a lobster and I looked at my shoulder and there was a massive blister. Later that day I was laying on the couch and felt something run down my arm and I looked and it was the blister that popped.

My mom always makes sure I grab sunscreen when I am going somewhere that I know I will be out in the sun all day. It is annoying when I have to stop what I am doing just to apply sunscreen.

Wearing sunscreen is a struggle, but it beats the alternative.
