Big Vs. Small

Are smaller schools more effective than larger schools? According to the National Education Association (NEA), smaller schools have an increased amount of attendance than larger schools. The NEA also states that there is an improved graduation rate in smaller schools.

In smaller schools, kids don’t have as much social anxiety because there are fewer people, and they can focus more on their grades.

In smaller schools teachers also get to know their students better than in larger schools. The teachers may have higher expectations, and students will work harder to meet those expectations.

“In smaller schools teachers care, and in larger schools, you can sit in the back and pass without trying,” Garrett Nippert, sophomore, said.

Teachers in small schools can focus and help the students more than in larger schools with more students.

“One of the biggest differences is that in a small school you know the names of all the kids in your class,” Mrs.Haub, FACS teacher, said.

It isn’t as overwhelming for new students in small schools, because there are not as many names and faces to remember.

Some people might prefer larger schools, but others might prefer the relationships they form in small schools that people won’t find in large schools.
