In a town the size of Canton, what is there to do? There are the typical things that Cantonites do on a regular basis. These things include eating at our two restaurants and gas station. Then later gathering around the same gas station parking lot and talking. While these may be the typical things that people do, there are certainly more fun things that can be done.

1. Going to the lake– Something fun to do while at Canton is go to the lake. No matter the time of the year the lake tends to be beautiful. Whether the waves are slowly rolling in and hitting the rocks while fishing, or if  the lake is frozen solid, the lake is always beautiful.

2. “Dragging Main”– Parents or anyone who could drive during the 80’s and 90’s call it “dragging main.” This generation calls it “driving around.” While it may not sound exciting at first, “dragging main” is a great way to have some good conversations with friends, and there is no telling what might happen.

3. Going to a football or basketball game– If it is high school, junior high, or even peewee athletics, there is at least one sporting event going on at some point throughout the week at Canton. While it may not sound too exciting at first, an athletic event can quickly entangle the audience and have one ready to scream by the end of the first quarter.

4. Going to a bigger town– If it is Enid or Weatherford, there is a large town about an hour away with plenty of things to do. A really fun thing to do is get several friends, drive to a bigger town, and then do something like play hide and seek in a park or in their Walmart (because our Dollar General is just not big enough).

5. Shooting things– One of Canton residents’ favorite past-times is to shoot things. If it is a rabbit, a deer, a clay pigeon, or a piece of plywood there is always something to shoot at.
