Is Christmas Coming too Early?

Stores decorated for Christmas.

Everyday is getting closer to the infamous holiday that has been creeping into stores since October. Christmas is one of the most loved holidays, and one of the most noticed. However, retail stores often like to show their Christmas spirit a little bit earlier than people would like. This is often called the “Christmas Creep” by store managers, and just about any of the employees who work in said stores.

Stores slowly start stocking their shelves with candy canes and Santa hats at the same time as the little goblins and candy corn. Many people think it is ridiculous to have one holiday stretched out so far, but these stores have a certain group of people in mind.

Millennials are learning to be a thrifty with their money. Therefore, stores want to stretch out the ever-loved holiday out to let it “creep” into these money-savers’ shopping lists.

Every year, the Christmas cheer begins earlier than the year before. So much so, that even the holiday fanatics think it is a bit much. Recent polls have shown where around 98% of stores wait until just after Halloween to begin decking their halls, and only 2% of stores wait until November to start their reindeer games.

Whichever way the mistletoe hangs, most everyone is in agreement that Christmas can wait a just little while longer, before the holiday decides to cross over into the summer as well. Just because people are trying to save a couple dollars, does not mean that they want to buy Christmas gifts in July. Now all shoppers can do is hope for their sanity next year.
