Newspaper Staff Wins Awards

On Monday, April 8, the Canton Tiger newspaper staff traveled to the University of Oklahoma to attend the Oklahoma Scholastic Media (OSM) 103rd Media Monday. The Tiger Media staff won several awards, including All-Oklahoma, which is the highest honor for an online publication.

“It is amazing how we were able to win an All-Oklahoman after only two years. I am just glad that I was able to be a part of Tiger Media,” Kenidi Humbargar, sophomore, said.

Tiger Media also won several individual awards for on-deadline contests. On-deadline contests were topics chosen by OSM in different categories. Students had two weeks to write and produce their pieces.

Erica Moldrup and Kylie Nix won first place video for on-deadline contest.

Solomon Vargas and Alyssa Rutz had second place video for on-deadline contest.

Hanna Sullins and Kenzi Nix had third place audio story on-deadline contest.

Braxton Thompson had second place sports story and honorable mention photo on-deadline contest.

“It was crazy seeing my name on the board the first year that I participated,” Braxton Thompson, freshman, said.

Taylor Dowell had second place photo gallery on-deadline contest.
