Sesame Street is a show that many students grew up with, but on December 8, 2019, Carol Spinney passed away. Carol Spinney was the voice behind Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. He voiced over 50 seasons and 4,514 episodes.   

“As a kid, I’d watch Sesame Street all the time, and it’s going to be weird knowing that the guy who played Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch won’t be playing them now.” Caden Koehn, junior, said.  

Sesame Street has been airing since 1969 and has won 189 Emmy Awards and 11 Grammy Awards, which is more than any other children’s television show. Sesame Street helps young children develop learning skills and cultural diversity.  

“My favorite Sesame Street character is Grover. He is socially awkward, but he doesn’t care and he doesn’t let it stop him from being Super Grover,” Mrs. Barney, media advisor, said.  

Sesame Street has helped millions of children throughout the ages. It helps children’s communication skills and works on development through the ages. Some research shows that Sesame Stree has the same educational benefit as going to preschool.   

“My favorite character was the Cookie Monster because he was really funny,” Ryleigh Bierig, eighth-grader, said.
