In Weathering with You, a 16-year-old boy, Hodaka, runs away from home to Tokyo. In Tokyo, it is always raining for months on end. While Hodaka is sleeping on the streets and trying to find a job to keep himself alive, he runs into a girl, Hina, at a restaurant. He befriends her for a moment.

After he meets Hina, Hodaka is able to find a job as a writer’s assistant and a place to stay. The latest article Hodaka has to write is about  rumors going around about a “sunshine girl.” This sunshine girl is rumored to be able to control the weather.

Hodaka later runs into Hina again and asks her about the sunshine girl and she reveals to him that it is her who everyone is talking about. Hina then shows Hodaka her power to summon clear skies despite the endless rain and grey clouds. This is where the story takes off as the two discover more about her powers and the mystery of the endless rain.

I thought the movie was great overall. The soundtrack was inspiring, the characters were believable, the story was engrossing, and the romance between Hina and Hodaka was sweet. I really don’t have any complaints about this movie. 

I did think it was boring in the beginning because the movie was only showing in Oklahoma City and I had to wake up early to go see it, so I was tired and wanted to go to sleep and the opening to the movie was pretty slow. I would even call it one of the best movies to hit theaters in 2019 and 2020, even though it just came to American this year.
