FFA Officer Candidates Prepare to Compete
With the school year cut short last year, many school activities did not have the chance to happen such, as FFA officer elections. Canton FFA is now preparing for those elections. This year eleven people are applying for FFA office. Nine offices are available.
This year’s election will be different from those in the past.
Instead of having a normal election and it being a popularity vote, there will be a new election system this year. Candidates will be interviewed by three different judges. The judges include an ag teacher from another school, a community member, and a teacher. These judges will help pick the candidates to fill the nine officer positions.
There are a total of eleven FFA members interested in becoming officers. They are Weston Waldrep, Levi Shaw, Seth Bromlow, Jake Sinclair, Taylor Dowell, McKenna Penner, Arianna Green, Kylie Nix, Amanda Schoonmaker, Brandon Day, and Adri Denton.
“I want to be president so I can help make important decisions for the officer team and do more fun stuff with the officer team in ag,” Weston Waldrep, senior, said.
Officer applications are due this Friday. None of the candidates are able to continue running if they do not fill out the application. They must also fill out an application to be an officer explaining what they have done in FFA and how long they have taken part in it. Filling out the application is helping students prepare for real job applications.
“I’m running for president because it would be amazing to help my chapter and all the younger FFA students. I love FFA and want to experience as much as I can before I graduate.” Taylor Dowell, senior, said.
