The Ghost of School Spirit

“That students’ section at Canton was awesome”- said no one ever. Do you ever just look around and notice how much school spirit there actually is in Canton, and then realize that there is no school spirit because that happens to me all the time?

People love to post on Snapchat, “The theme for the student’s section tonight is ‘country’,” and maybe 3 out of the 10 people who post it dress up. Most of them do not show up until half-time. Even if they do dress up, they only cheer for like two minutes of the game and take pictures. Most of the time they only cheer if Canton is winning.

Decorating banners and floats seems like fun and a great way to get involved, but in reality, only four people work on it. Maybe the first day of working seven people will come, but all they do is goof off. Something else that confused me: if only four people work on the float then why should the classmates get rewarded if they did nothing? Most of the time the students’ moms do more than the actual students. I understand that football players have practice and can not always come, but people could at least act like they want to help.

Not having pep assemblies could be a big factor in people not having school spirit. Pep assemblies were a great way to try to get kids involved and excited. Now that there are not pep assemblies, some students probably don’t even know when game days are.
