Every day people use social media and what they don’t realize is that it affects their everyday lives.

  • It is addicting.

People can get on social media thinking it will only be a little bit and when they look at the time, it has been hours. It can get their attention with just an ad. Then they want more and then more. All social media has to do is show them what they like then they can become addicted to it.

“The serotonin released from your device is why you’re addicted to it,” Jordan Dossey, freshman, said.

  • Your Sleep

When people are on their phone at night time makes it harder to fall asleep. If people already have a messed-up sleep schedule, being on their phone is going to make it worse.

“Your bright screen keeps you awake longer so you stay up longer making you tired the next day,” Dossey, said.

  • Motivation and Money

Sometimes people scroll through their phones and they see an advertisement. It pulls them into buying something. Other times, people can see a recipe and at the time they don’t feel like doing anything that day, but then they think that the food looks really good though so they decide to build up the motivation to make it.

“Sometimes I get motivated to try new recipes or to, um, buy certain things,” Mrs. Castillo, junior high teacher, said.

  • The Knowledge Available

Social media can give people so many things to know it’s crazy. Anyone could scroll on whatever app they use and learn that beaver teeth are pure ivory.

“I think if you like use social media and your advantage and search what you need to know I think it will help you,” Nadia Luna, middle schooler, said.

  • Your Mental Health

People on the internet are something different. Sometimes they can compliment other people so much it makes them feel great about themself. Other times they tear people down to the bone. It can make them feel horrible. With people like this, it can affect someone’s mental health really badly.

“I had realized I had developed insecurities based on comparing my body and the way I looked at other girls on social media. I have had to rebuild and stop comparing myself I have just recently started self-love and I’m glad I have made development,” Zayda Sherwood, sophomore, said.
