Ready Player one, a popular movie released in 2018, is science fiction featuring a plot set in the world of virtual reality. In the movie the character uses virtual reality by walking on an omnidirectional treadmill. Many companies have created these treadmills such as Infinadeck or Virtuix.

An omnidirectional treadmill is a type of treadmill that allows users to walk in any direction at any speed.

Infinadeck is a larger treadmill that can cost between $40,000 to $60,000 and is made from steel. Infinadeck started working on these treadmills back in 2014 and they are now available to the public.

On the other hand, Virtuix is much cheaper than Infinadeck costing only around $2,000, and is smaller to fit in a person’s living room. Virtuix is a more recent company but is slowly getting more popular because of the high quality and cheaper prices compared to Infinadeck.

Virtuix is not a real omnidirectional treadmill with moving conveyors like a normal treadmill, it has a metal platform with special shoes that allow users to run at full speed. These shoes reduce the friction almost completely on the platform making it easier and cheaper to make.
