On November 8th, 2021, Canton FFA hosted its annual labor auction to help raise money for ag activities. This year the Canton FFA chapter managed to raise $23,000 in funds to help buy metal and supplies for the shop, show supplies, and entry fees.

“My favorite thing about the labor auction was probably seeing all those people showing up in support for our FFA chapter,” Mr. Mitchel, ag teacher, said.

Every year, every grade in ag buys items to put into a basket to sell at the labor auction. Whichever basket sells the most,  gets the class a small pizza party to celebrate. This year’s winners were 8th grade and their Movie Night basket and the juniors with their fall themed basket, selling for $525. Since they tied, they both will get to enjoy a pizza party with Mr. Mitchel and Mrs. Woods.

“My favorite thing about the labor auctions is seeing the community come together to support our students, having fun, and making memories ,” Mrs. Woods, horticulture teacher, said.

Around 5:30 p.m. was when things really got going. Students and parents were busy working in the kitchen to help the lunch ladies make dinner, while people brought more desserts and donated baskets to sell. After everyone was almost finished eating, it was time to begin the auction. The auction started around 7:20 p.m. and it ended around 9:30 p.m. after tables and chairs were put up, and trash was thrown away.

“Personally my favorite part of the labor auction was seeing how many supporters we have and talking to new FFA members,” Amanda Schoonmaker, Canton FFA chapter president, said.
