A lot of people may know about the prominent movie Scream which is one of the best-known horror movies, but did you know that it is actually based on a true story? 

The movie ‘Scream was based on a real-life serial killer Danny Rolling also known as the Gainsville Ripper. Danny Rolling was born and raised in Shreveport, Lousiana in 1954, and grew up with his father abusing his mother.

In 1990, he murdered five students in Gainsville, Florida. He later confessed to triple homicide and attempted to murder his family in May of 1990. After confessing that he killed eight people, he was sentenced to death in 1994 and was later executed in 2006. 

The movie Scream was written by screenwriter Kevin Williamson,  inspired by Danny Rolling, AKA the Gainsville Ripper. Williamson was home alone when he first got the news about the Gainsville Ripper. 

He noticed he had an open window in his living room and realized it would be quite easy for someone to enter his house through the window and harm him. Williamson was not scared, instead, he was inspired by the serial killer and decided to write a summary which ended up being the start of one of the best horror movies Scream.
