FFA To Hold Trophy Auction

FFA To Hold Trophy Auction

On January 24th, Canton FFA will be hosting its annual trophy auction to sell sponsorship of trophies that will be given out at Canton’s local livestock show. The event will be held in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. and guests will be treated with a meal of chicken strips and calf fries before the auction starts.

“It is a way to reward kids for the work they have done and for the projects they have been working on. When it comes to livestock, some kids can have an animal for up to one and a half years. It also allows us to pay for random burdens that need to be paid for such as feed and other random necessities. The trophy auction, pays for trophies and rewards, while also allowing us to sell random projects the kids have started,” Mr. Mitchell, ag teacher, said.

Canton FFA will be showcasing buckles and other prizes that cattle, sheep, goat, and swine exhibitors will compete for on February 4th. So far there are 12 cattle exhibitors, 5 sheep exhibitors, 3 goat exhibitors, and 14 swine exhibitors entered into the local show, and all of them could have the chance to take home a grand champion or reserve grand champion prize. The trophy auction makes all that happen when someone sponsors the prizes as a donation to the Canton FFA chapter.

“The trophy auction is just a fun way to reward and give exhibitors something cool to use. When we make rewards and trophies we really try to use things that the kids can enjoy, look forward to, and work to get,” Mrs. Woods, horticulture teacher, said.
