LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – North Little Rock Police Department officer Tommy Norman posted briefly on X Monday, shortly after his release following a Saturday night arrest.
“Where I am doesn’t define who I am…” the officer and community activist wrote.
Authorities released Norman on \$350 bond Monday after charging him with misdemeanor third-degree domestic battery.
According to an arrest report, Norman’s wife told officers he struck her on the right side of her chest with the back of his hand during an argument. Officers said they noticed a slight injury on her chest.
Norman told police he acted in self-defense to avoid being slapped. Officers said they found no visible injuries on him.
An NLRPD spokesperson confirmed Norman has been placed on leave while the investigation continues. His court date is set for Nov. 6.
Before the arrest, Norman had been highly active in the North Little Rock community, often reaching out to young people and families while in uniform.
An admin on Norman’s Instagram page asked the public to “give Tommy’s beautiful children space.”
The admin also said Norman cannot comment on specifics until internal and external reviews are complete and requested prayers on his behalf.
