Has The True Meaning of Christmas Been Lost

As winter comes and semester tests are getting closer and closer many students are waiting for their favorite holiday…Christmas. But what really is the true meaning of Christmas and has it lost its meaning?

Christmas now is all about greedy kids wanting the most expensive and best presents. The real legend of Santa Claus came from St.Nicholas, a monk who lived around A.D. 280 in Patara, modern-day Turkey. St. Nicholas was a good person, who gave his money to charity and helped save 3 sisters form being sold in to slavery.

Now shopping mall Santas have evolved over time. They originated in the 19th century and were created by stores and newsletters. In the 1890s the salvation army needed money for food to give to the hungry kids in New York, so they took unemployed men and put them in Santa costumes and have been doing it ever since. This has evolved into what we now think of as the typical mall Santa who takes photos with children and asks them what they want for Christmas.

The worst thing about Santa is when the kids grow up and find out that he isn’t real. Something that they have believed in for years doesn’t exist that would break their hearts. Do kids these days honestly know what Christmas is even about? Big Business and Hollywood have twisted Christmas to benefit themselves.

The true meaning of Christmas actually isn’t about presents and Santa, it’s about Jesus Christ. You know Jesus CHRIST, CHRISTmas. The whole point of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is a holiday for hope, joy, and love. We shouldn’t be worried about what we are going to get for Christmas.
