Newspaper staff displaces their awards.

On Monday, April 11, the Canton Tiger newspaper staff traveled to the University of Oklahoma to attend the Oklahoma Scholastic Media (OSM) 106th Media Monday. The Tiger Media staff won several awards, including All-Oklahoma and Sweepstakes. This is the first year the Tiger Media newspaper staff has won Sweepstakes.

“I can’t remember a time when I was more proud. To finally win Sweepstakes means so much. A little school like us coming in and taking down the big dogs feels great. After all, we have to come in and go head to head with schools with so many more sports, clubs, and activities than us, add to that way bigger budgets…this is a huge win. Meridith and I love these kids, ” Mr. Barney, media co-advisor, said.

Bree Simon and Aaliyah Hough placed second in Audio/Video Feature Story All Divisions: On Deadline Contest, “Bree and Aaliyah Present Students’ Interesting Hobbies”.

“I wasn’t really expecting us to win because we did an okay job but since it was our first time competing I think we did well and I am glad we won,” Aaliyah Hough, freshman, said.

Kenzi and Kylie Nix received honorable mention for Feature Story All Divisions: On Deadline Contest, “Thrifting to Save Money and the Environment”.

“It was exciting to hear that we won and I am glad we won Sweepstakes because it is finally giving our great staff the recognition they deserve,” Kenzi Nix, senior, said.
