Puttin’ in Extra Work

On Sunday, October 22, part of the Canton High School football team came together to practice.

The coach at the practice was Coach Love. He is not from Canton, but he decided to help the team out. Coach Love is the assistant coach at John Marshall in Oklahoma City.

“I think Coach Love coming to do skills training is an amazing opportunity for the football boys because he has so much playing knowledge at the next level, coaching athletes that have gone to D1 and D2 schools, and even the NFL. He has the ability to teach the game and make sure everyone grasps what he is teaching. If our boys continue to learn from him their knowledge of the game will grow so much.” said Susie Waldrep, mom of one of the players.

Sunday, October 29, he will be bringing some other coaches to help out the team.

Coach Love is trying to teach the players fundamentals of football. He is also trying to teach them how to shed blocks, some footwork, as well as how to tackle correctly.

Coach Love is trying to teach the team a new way to tackle. The new form of tackling is called the hawk tackle. The NFL team the Seahawks developed the tackle to help prevent head injuries.

Sunday October 29, Coach Love brought his son down to help coach the team.

Both coaches will continue to come over the summer to help develop the team’s fundamentals.
