In 1985 DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered. Camarena was undercover for over four years in Mexico. His undercover efforts uncovered a multi-million dollar narcotics manufacturing operation. When Kiki was kidnapped and killed, people from his hometown started wearing red ribbons, Red Ribbon Week its start.

“Red Ribbon Week helps some people because some take advice from words while some take advice from actions,” Seth Bromlow, freshman, said.

Red Ribbon Week was celebrated by Canton High School from October 26th through the 31st by dressing up. On the 26th the theme was “Lei Off Drugs” the 27th was “Team Up Against Drugs” the 30th was “Your Choices are the Key to Your Dreams” and “Drugs are Scary” on the 31st.
