Every year Canton school hosts a Veteran’s Day assembly to honor the veterans in the community. At the Veterans Day assembly, they will announce the winners of the Voice of Democracy essay and Patriots Pen essay that the high school and junior high students wrote. Kindergarten through sixth grade will be singing patriotic songs throughout the assembly, and Mrs. Barney’s speech class will read the history of veterans.

Before the assembly, there is a lunch for the veterans provided by Mrs. Heath, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Mcnabb, Mrs. Fuqua, Mrs. Sanderson, and Mrs. Loudenslager.

Three of the teachers at Canton High School, Mr. Hampton, Mr. Mesis, and Mr. Cox, are veterans.

The Freshman Leadership Council and Student Council will be collecting items to donate to veterans who are admitted to VA hospitals.

“It’s important to honor veterans because they risked their lives for us,” Payton Lee, freshman, said.

The Veteran’s Day assembly will be held Friday at 1 PM in the elementary gym.
