Fake News

There has been a claim that one of the most popular messaging sites, known as Snapchat, is going to be shut down by the end of 2017. This claim is false, the rumor was said to originate from a prank news site.

The article saying Snapchat was going to be taken off of all devices and taken out of all app stores spread like wildfire in the beginning of November. The article stated that Snapchat would be taken down on November 14, 2017. On the top of the article, it said,  “You got owned,” and on the right side of the page it said, “You’ve been pranked.”

Little did many people know that the website Channel45news.com is a prank news generator. The group site makes convincing articles to entice many people to click on it, so they can see that the article was just an online joke. Considering that not very many people have clicked on the article before passing it on social media.

Many people were worried that Snapchat was going to be taken down because they would lose contact with their friends who live far away. Some people may have been worried because they might lose their “streaks”. A streak is the number of days two people have been snapchatting each other. Thankfully for many people, the rumor that went around was just fake news.
