Canton Tigers in Okeene Tournament

On January 18, the Canton Tigers high school basketball team took part in the Okeene Tournament. The Tigers’ first game was against the Watonga Eagles.

The Tigers played as visitors and the Eagles were home. Freshmen players Brooks Martin and Ethan Foster sat out this tournament.

At the beginning of the game, the Tigers were able to get the ball. The Tigers ran their offense but were unable to get a basket. The score at the end of first quarter was Watonga 18 and Canton 8.

During the second quarter, Claysen Scott made a jump shot. Josh Edwards was able to make a three-pointer. On defense, the Tigers were unable to prevent the Eagles from scoring. The score at the end of second quarter was Watonga 30 and Canton 15.

After the first half, the Tigers started off with the ball. On offense, the Tigers were able to score two points. Later in the quarter, Edwards assisted Garret Nippert, and Nippert made two points. In the last three seconds of the third quarter, Weston Waldrep scored two points. The score was Eagles 46 and Tigers 26.

In the last quarter, the Tigers started off on defense. After stealing the ball, the Tigers dribbled the ball down the court and Josh Edwards drove for a layup but missed it. However, Deonte Murray put the ball into the basket and scored two points.

In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Coach Rich subbed out his first team and subbed in his second team. On defense, Cooper Evans was able to make a steal but failed to make a layup. On offense, the Tigers were able to make three points thanks to Shy Cauble. Also, Cody Conrady was able to make two points, and Eric Estala got a steal.

The final score of the game was Canton Tigers 35 and Watonga Eagles 69.
