Fashion trends come and go over the decades. The butterfly clips and blue eyeshadow of the 90s were great back then, but what happens in the 90s stays in the 90s… or does it? Here are the top 10 fashion trends that have made a comeback from decades past.

1. Converse Shoes

Converse shoes made their debut in 1908. In 1918 Charles “Chuck” Taylor put on his first pair of the white canvas shoes and this was the start if something great. The shoes were especially popular with basketball players in the 60s. The shoes fell out of style in the early 80s, but in 2016 they began to make a comeback. Now almost any shoe store in America has a variety of colors and styles of “chucks.”

2. Choker Necklaces

The 90s were home to some of the best fashion statements ever conceived. Stores like Hot Topic, Abercrombie, and Spencers were all the rage. There was one item every store had an abundance of, choker necklaces. Chokers have been making a slow comeback through the years. Now the necklaces have begun to make a comeback with teenage girls everywear.

3. High Waisted Jeans

In the 60s bell bottom jeans were the clothing item every man, woman, and child owned. The next step in the story of good ole blue jeans was high waisted jeans. These jeans became popular in the 70s, but fell out of style in the 90s and early 2000s. The past few years have seen a revival of these pants. Now they can be found in every department store and are more popular than ever.

4. Ropers  

Every 90s kid knows how important footwear was to complete their high waisted looks. The answer to every fashion delima could be solved with one simple pair of boots… roper boots.  These brightly colored boots came in an array of colors from simple and black to crazy and blue. While these have yet to come back into style with older kids, many parents dress their toddlers in these adorable shoes.

5. Platform Shoes

Every little girl has played dress up in her mom’s closet. Most have also nearly broken both their ankles when they tried to wear their mom’s old shoes from high school. The cause of these deadly dress up’s is the infamous platform shoe. These shoes became popular in the 70s and stayed in style through the 90s. They were lost during the 2000s, but have slowly begun to come back into style.

6. Neon

The 80s were captivated by one of the best trends in history. This trend was none other than neon. These bright colors could be found on every item of clothing from makeup to shoes. This trend has become less popular through the decades, but has never completely died out. The 90s and 2000s definitely had their fair share of neon. Today this bright trend is becoming more and more popular.

7. Corduroy

Corduroy is one of the oldest textiles in history. It was being used as early as 200 AD Egypt. The cloth was especially popular in the 1920s and 30s. It was being used for things like dress suits. The trend has fallen in and out of style several times and is currently on the rise once again. FFA students across the nation sport blue corduroy jackets.

8. Ripped Jeans

Ripped jeans are so popular today that many people probably don’t know they had once fallen out of style. These mangled jeans were born in the 80s, but fell out of style do to the low waisted and light washed jeans of the 90s. Today they are one of the most popular items of clothing in the United States.

9. Birkenstock

Today teenage girls everywhere are sporting a trend no one thought would ever come back, socks with sandals. These “birks” first became popular in the 70s, and saw a resurgence in the 90s.

Movies and television shows have been featuring this pair of footwear on their most dorky characters for years. Now they these sandals are worn by people everywhere.

10. Buns

The bun is a hairstyle where all of the hair is tied up in a ball. Buns were popular during WWII, but no one would be caught dead in one in 80s. Today buns are the international hairstyle for lazy girls. People across the world rock this hairstyle every day.
