STUCO Attends State Convention In Bixby

On Saturday through Monday, November 3-5, eight officers attended STUCO State Convention in Bixby, Oklahoma.

The convention started by separating by district, and having meetings about the weekend. Next, all students went to the Exhibit Hall and met with different colleges, and even got down with “Footloose”. Afterward, the first general session started at 3:00, by introducing all of the districts. Finally at 7:45 p.m, the night was finished off at Incredible Pizza.

On Sunday, the second general session started at 9:30, and ended at 11:15. After the second session, students were separated into groups by the color of wristband they had, so they could meet new people. In these groups, student councils rotated with lunch and other activities. The third general session started at 2:10, and the voting started for the State President and Vice President. At 3:45, the councils returned to their hotels to get ready for the luau themed dance that started at 7:15, and took place at the Aquarium in Jenks.

“State convention was one of the best things I’ve ever attended. I made new friends and learned new perspectives on life,” Alicia Luna, sophomore, said.

On Monday, the fourth and final general session started at 9:30 and ended at 11:00. Canton left early in order to have the basketball girls back before they left for their scrimmage. The officers got back in time for eighth hour and even discovered a light up table at Mcdonald’s on the way home.

“It was a great experience because I learned new leadership skills and got to meet up with old friends from Basic,” Kalissa Wile, junior, said.
