Setting the Boundaries Straight

Setting+the+Boundaries+Straight

Everyone has boundaries, some are more strict than others, but everyone has boundaries. There are three rings to everyone’s boundaries.

The innermost ring is green, representing everything that is okay to do. Nobody needs hyped up to do things within their green. Singing alone in the mirror could be something in most people’s green ring. The green zone is generally the smallest ring, because nobody likes to go out and do something uncomfortable enough to make it a part of their green ring.

The middle ring is yellow, representing things that are comfortably uncomfortable. These things require a little bit courage to get done. Something in the yellow ring could be joining clubs or making new friends. Someone may just need a little push to get something done in the yellow ring.

The outermost ring is red, representing things that someone will not do. They are so uncomfortable and out of the yellow ring, that the body’s natural reaction is to say fully resist. One thing commonly put in the red zone is public speaking. Many people can not, and will not, speak in public. Anything that causes that type of reaction is in the red zone for certain people.

The rings are different for every person. Some have bigger green rings than others, or bigger yellow rings. One main goal that everyone should strive for is to make their green zone bigger and their red zone smaller.

A good way to achieve this goal is to stay in the yellow zone, that way, the things that are slightly uncomfortable, become comfortable. Then someone’s green zone will constantly be growing, and more things will be second-nature to them.

What ring is the biggest for you?
