On Saturday November 10, the high school academic team traveled to Drummond to compete in regionals. Drummond, Leedey, Canton, Geary, Aline-Cleo, Lookeba-Sickles, Lomega, Geary, Calumet, Waynoka, and Freedom had schools competing for the four top spots to qualify for the Area Tournament.

Canton’s team of Jared Cox, Taylor Dowell, Beau Fuqua, Deuce Johnson, and Kenzi Nix attended with coach Bryan Cox.  Canton had a bye in round 1 before facing Lomega in round 2. Canton defeated Lomega 170-80, which sent them on directly to round 4.

Round 4 placed Canton against the home team, Drummond.  It was a very close match, but the speed round in the 2nd quarter had Drummond take the lead, which they maintained. The final score was Drummond 210 and Canton 150.

In Round 5, Canton played Lookeba-Sickles. Team captain Jared Cox came through in the 2nd quarter calculating seven correct math questions in just 60 seconds.  Canton won with a score of 200-80, which sent them to the 3rd place match.

In the 3rd place match, Canton faced Lomega again.  This time, however, Lomega came out on top, making Canton the 4th place finisher.  The team will go on to play in the area tournament for its chance to qualify for the state competition.
