Thanksgiving is the day that families across the country gather to enjoy a day of food and fun. It falls on the 23 of November this year. Thanksgiving is the day people get to eat to their heart’s content, and then continue eating for a couple days after. Here are 10 fun, crazy, and interesting facts you may not have known about Thanksgiving.

1. An estimated 50 million pumpkin pies are eaten on Thanksgiving. Now that is a lot of pies.

2. Black Friday is the busiest day of the year.. for plumbers. Good luck to all the plumbers out there.

3. About 280 million turkeys are sold annually for Thanksgiving which is about 7 BILLION pounds of turkey and approximately $3 billion worth of sales.

4. There are three places in the United States named after the holiday’s traditional main course — Turkey, TX; Turkey Creek, LA.; and Turkey, N.C. There are also nine townships around the country named “Turkey,” with three in Kansas.

5. Thanksgiving Day is the busiest travel day of the year. The American Automobile Association (AAA) has estimated that over 42 million Americans travel by car 50 miles or more over the holiday weekend. Another 4 million people fly the skies to visit their loved ones for the holiday. Always drive safely during the holidays.
