NHD Students Qualify for State

On April 3, the Canton National History Day students traveled to Weatherford to compete in NHD districts.

The following students qualified for state in National History Day competition in the senior division:

Alyssa Rutz, individual exhibit, Trapped Between Barbed Wire and the Sea.

Braxton Thompson, Kenzi Nix, and Kylie Nix, a group exhibit, Mending Men: Anna Coleman Ladd and World War I. Braxton Thompson, Kenzi Nix, and Kylie Nix also won the Senior Division Women’s History Award.

The following students qualified for state in the National History Day competition in the junior division:

Blair Dowell, historical paper, The Women with Wings: Mercury 13. Blair Dowell also won the Junior Division Women’s History Award.

Amanda Schoonmaker, individual exhibit, Forgotten Chosin.

Emma Hoffman, individual exhibit, Children of the Dust.

Claire Elder, individual exhibit, Jonas Salk.

Kylie Carrasco and Kyla Withers, group Exhibit, Villa Under a Crazy Star.

Ariel Green, Kiana Whiteman, and Aubrey Cheney, a group exhibit, Tragedy in the Heartland.

Lea Vowell and Sienna Bates, a group exhibit, Ruben Rivers.   

Jacob Rutz, Liam McIntosh, and Ashlyn Ruiz, group performance, The Bielski Brothers.

Kasidee Pope, individual website, The Civilian Conservation Corps.

Alethia McIntosh and Bree Simon, group website, Operation Babylift.

 Addisyn Smith, individual documentary, Ireland’s Oskar Schindler.

Luke Foster, individual documentary, Ruben Rivers.

Kaghan Baker and Connor Cox, group documentary, Jesse Owens.

Noah Ross, individual performance, Knud Pedersen and Danish Resistance.

State junior History Day competition will be on May 1. State senior History Day competition will be on May 2.
