Gettin’ to the Root of It

Elementary vegetable garden

The third and sixth grade students are planting a garden!

Kids LOVE getting their hands in the dirt anytime they can and now is their chance.

The students are excited about this project because they will be learning about science and math during the process. They will fill out worksheets on how their plants are developing and will also measure their plants during the project to see how much they grow.

The students will be planting fall vegetables such as squash, carrots, turnips, radishes, cucumbers, onions, beets, and spinach with the help of their teachers, Mrs. Fuqua, Mrs. Nault and Mr. Hursh.

Tires, planting soil, and seeds were donated by many people in the community. Blaine County brought a truckload of dirt to fill up the tires. Gilchrist General store donated plants to put in the tires.

“We decided to do this because we wanted kids to know the process of how to make their own food if they needed to” said Mrs. Fuqua.

The Claw will stay updated with the progress of the garden.
