Wonders In The Art Closet

The art closets have been a jungle of unexplored terrain, until now. Alicia Luna, one of my best friends and a fellow imbecile, has been cleaning out and exploring the art closets (with permission of course.) Surprisingly, there is a lot of really cool stuff that is sadly not being used. Here are some of the things in the art closet that just make sense.

1. Various clay objects.

A collection of old clay pots and creations just sit in the back of the closets collecting dust. There is a clay Nike shoe, with real shoelaces, an assortment of creepy faces, and bowls that look like they could lowkey be ashtrays.

2. Spools of wire

There are big spools of twistable wires for wire art. The wires come in different thickness and colors. I had to help Luna separate three different colors of wire for a project she is making. Separating colored wire for a whole class period was rough.

3. Sharp objects for clay

Most of the objects are safety pins, sewing needles, and other sharp objects, for legal reasons I am not allowed to elaborate further on the kind of objects due to student safety.

4. Strips of leather for leatherwork

One the highest shelf is a box of thongs (not the kind you’re thinking of.) Thongs are the name of thin leather strips, or thongs can also be a name for sandals. They could be used for braiding or making necklaces or legit anything where a thin strip of leather can be used.

5. Streamers- like party streamers

A various assortment of colored streamers are bundled together in a little mesh sack. The streamers are the paper ones that are usually shown in prom scenes in movies.

6. Clamshells

Clamshells that are as big as a human hand are also in a little mesh sack. The shells look like they are from the Canton lake.

7. Paper making screens

One of the coolest things I saw were the screens that are used to make paper. Why aren’t we using these? We could be saving paper by making paper. It’s a total waste if you ask me.

All in all, the art closet is a wondrous disappointment of all the art projects we could be doing other than drawing the same things we have been all year. We are just now starting our own personal projects in art class. Luna plans to keep cleaning the art closets and I plan to keep looking for all the weird stuff.
