Freshman, Karington Hawk researches history day project

This year, we have 65 students participating in National History Day. National History Day, or NHD for short, is a worldwide contest where students in 6th-12th grade can put together a history project. These projects can be one of five categories- a paper, a website, a documentary, a play, or a board. All of these categories can have groups of up to five, except the paper category, which has to be written by one person.

Our students have just recently kicked off working on their projects. They have started with research and will soon be on to putting together their actual projects. Most students competing are excited and ready for all the challenges that come with competing.

“My expectations are to finish my project and hopefully make it to nationals. I know there are going to be challenges but we will power through them,” Addisyn Smith, freshman, said.

History Day contests begin in April with regional competitions, then on to state for those who qualify. From there, contestants can qualify for National History Day in Washington, D.C.
