Fashion Predictions for 2022

Fashion+Predictions+for+2022

These are my fashion predictions for this year. I obviously don’t know for sure if they will end up being trendy, but I have a good feeling from what I’ve seen represented in the media that they will be.

2021 saw a little bit of Y2K with plaid skirts, baby tees, and sweater vests, but 2022 will throwback to the early 2000s more prominently. Low-rise jeans are coming back after being out of the spotlight for a decade. High-waisted jeans will still be trendy among many people.

Staying with the Y2K trend, we will also be seeing butterfly tops typically with colorful sequins. Dua Lipa actually wore a denim butterfly top with denim butterfly jeans. This denim on denim style will probably be seen more this year.

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wore Canadian tuxedos at the 2001 American Music Awards. This very quickly became a trend and will definitely make a comeback in 2022 from what we’ve already seen.

Quilted patchwork will also be seen more especially on jackets and jeans similar to the two-toned patched denim jackets and jeans seen in 2021 but with quilted patchwork. On an episode of Red Table Talk, Willow Smith is having a one on one conversation with Paris Jackson. She is wearing a quilted patchwork jacket. Jackson is wearing patchwork flowy pants and is seen wearing earthy tones. This style of patchwork will progressively become more popular throughout the year.

We will be seeing cabin core a lot this winter. This core aesthetic consists of chunky-oversized knit sweaters, creative knit sweaters that have funky patterns, and fair isles which we will continue to see incorporated a lot more in sweaters. Fair isles is a traditional knitting technique that has become very popular and is something we will continue to see.

A lot of winter trends will be reconnecting to nature, whether that’s through earthy tones in fashion or through spirituality. Green has been an extremely popular color, more specifically sage green which is something we will definitely continue to see this year.
