Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Brings so Much More Than the Game Ever did
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a new anime set in the Cyberpunk universe. If you’re wondering if it’s as disappointing as the game was, it’s not. The anime is absolutely amazing.
As I understand it, this is actually canon to that universe. That’s great because Cyberpunk 2077, even with all its flaws, had a fantastic setting and I’m super glad we get to explore more of it with Edgerunners. It’s so good. Now it’s not perfect, but this show is outstanding.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a creation by Studio Trigger and I think it’s their best one so far. It is breathtaking and just a beautiful and gorgeous show. A lot of passion went into this and it really paid off. I was blown away by it.
There were times in the show where I was like woah, they’re up there with some of the best when it comes to the animation especially when it comes to the action. It’s very violent and super gory. It really doesn’t hold anything back.
Since it’s set in the Cyberpunk universe, the action is pretty creative since everyone’s got all kinds of implants and crazy cybernetic augments that let them do wild stuff. It’s always flashy and it’s always great. Everything just shines because they really put a lot of work into every little detail of this universe. I can’t praise the visuals enough.
I have a few complaints about the story and its writing however. I don’t think the story is bad by any means. I actually really liked the story, but I feel like there was a lot they wanted to tell with only a short amount of time. It’s a ten-episode series which is a pretty normal length, but I really feel like they wanted something bigger.
There are times when the writing is just kind of silly. Overall I still think it’s good. The characters are well-written as they develop throughout the ten episodes, but the writers just try to do so much and they do it too fast. It’s not a huge problem or anything and it doesn’t ruin the show. It doesn’t even hold it back. It’s just something that stood out as a bit weaker than the rest of the components.
The visuals are on another level and the soundtrack is always really good. It’s something you’ll notice right away in episode one. They did a great job with their music choice.
