Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a good movie and I enjoyed it quite a bit, except for the unnecessary commentary from the little kids in the theater. I understand that this movie is directed towards kids, so I can’t be mad that they were there. Just because it’s directed towards kids though, that doesn’t mean that teenagers and adults can’t enjoy it. 

It’s just a goofy, silly, and fun adventure type of movie that you can’t help but to appreciate. I think Jim Carrey absolutely slays in this movie, but of course there’s still going to be cringy lines and cringy moments because again, it’s directed towards kids. I can overlook that though. It doesn’t make it unbearable for me or anything. It is what it is. 

I think this movie is better than the first one because it focuses on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik. The humans take much more of a backseat this time which is absolutely necessary here. In the first movie, I thought they did fine with the human and Sonic dynamic. It wasn’t like a problem or anything, but in this movie they kick the humans to more of a side quest. 

This movie really did feel a lot more like an actual Sonic game brought to life. Dr. Robotnik has his giant crazy machine. Sonic and Knuckles fight and the fights are really cool. Sonic uses speed a lot more in his fighting, and Knuckles uses more strength and Tails uses his gadgets, which all have their fun little purposes. The movie then addresses friendship and what it means to be friends. 

It was just an enjoyable time. I don’t really have any major complaints about the movie other than the human side quest. Of course if you really start thinking about the movie, the plot kind of breaks apart a little bit because Sonic can solve pretty much any problem with his speed since he’s the fastest thing in the universe. 

He could just do what Quicksilver did that one time in X-Men. He can also do what he did in the first movie where he can just freeze everything around him and basically just do everything he needs to do to solve any issue. He just chooses not to most of the time. It’s still good and fun. Like Knuckles and Sonic fighting, it was cool. They clashed a few times and every time, it was a little different. Overall I think the movie was just fun.
